Grace Marie (Reicherter) Behnamann was born in Silver Lake, Kansas, on August 29, 1897. Her parents were Albert F. Reicherter (born 23 October 1857) and Emma Eugenia Cones (born 5 December 1870). She was the second of five sisters with a youngest brother: Lavergne Eugenia, Faye, Ethel Louise, Doris, and Albert Otto.

Grace's father Albert F. Reicherter owned a hay business in Silver Lake, Kansas, with his brother. Her mother Emma (Cones) Reicherter was an author who published the books "The History of Silver Lake, Kansas" and "Our Family History." Grace met her husband Harry Behnamann (a university coach) while teaching elocution and women's physical education at University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.

After her marriage to Harry in 1921, they moved to Harry's home town of Rock Island, Illinois. Harry was a coach at Rock Island High School and, later, an insurance salesman.

Grace gave birth to her first child Dorothy Marie in 1923 and her second child Evelyn Jeane in 1929.

During the years of the Depression, Harry's father Louis Behnamann and brother Albert Behnamann lived with them in Rock Island, Illinois.

Grace was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Rock Island, Illinois, for 55 years and served in many capacities. She was a Christian Science Practitioner for 30 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution which she joined with her mother Emma (Cones) Reicherter and grandmother Mary (Ferris) Cones in 1925.

Grace left behind daughters Dorothy Marie (Behnamann) Youngberg, son-in-law Robert Youngberg, daughter Evelyn Jeane (Behnamann) Wood, son-in-law Rodger Benton Wood, and 8 grandsons and 2 granddaughters: Mark Youngberg, Gary Youngberg, Kent Youngberg, Todd Youngberg, Brad Youngberg, Drew Youngberg, Randall Wood, Kenneth Wood, Christine (Wood) Woods, and Jennifer Wood. She also had 10 great-grandchildren.
