Marie Christiansen passed away on November 11, 2015. She courageously battled the effects of multiple sclerosis for 42 years but did not let that define her. Marie was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was a dear neighbor and friend to many and an advocate for those with disabilities, the poor, and the marginalized.
Marie was born April 12, 1943 in an area of Beaver Utah known at the time as Jackson County. She was the third and only girl born to Donna Anderson and Lloyd Hunt. At the age of 2, the family house in Beaver was destroyed in a fire and the family moved to Provo so her father could work at Geneva Steel. Marie grew up in Provo and Beaver and graduated from Beaver High School in 1961. On encouragement of her mother, Marie attended college at Chico State University before returning to Provo to take a job in the accounting field.
Marie married Clair Lee on December 27, 1963. She and Clair had four children that brought much joy into their lives. During this time, Marie selflessly raised her children while also helping in the family business. A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at the age of 30 brought significant struggle, but she continued to work tirelessly to care for her children and give service to others.
Marie was a creative and caring woman who was continuously involved in various entrepreneurial and civic activities. She was active in the LDS church where she served in many capacities. She was passionate about food and loved preparing and sharing it with others.
After her children were raised, Marie dedicated much of her time to being an advocate for those with disabilities in the state of Utah. She served on numerous disability nonprofit boards and her efforts brought important policy and personal benefits to the people she served.
In 1999, Marie married John Christiansen in the St. George Temple. Their marriage brought a wholeness to Marie's life. John and Marie enjoyed 16 beautiful years together.
Marie is survived by her children Camille, Rachelle, Chris, Brandon (Josie) and her 5 grandchildren; her step children Richard (Gaye), Brett (Susan), Von (Melynda), Daryl (Jennifer), and 17 step grandchildren; her brothers Gordon and Bruce and sister Victoria.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents Donna and Lloyd, her brother Marlan and sister Thelma, and her granddaughter Autumn.
