Michael Louie Tong, age 61, of Cedar City, Utah, died Monday, October 12, 2015, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah.
Michael was born on May 11, 1954 to Louie P. and Lois A. Keele Tong in Cedar City, Utah. He graduated from Cedar High School and then attended college in Grand Junction, Colorado. He moved back to Cedar City where he served as a volunteer fireman for 37 years. Michael was a retired postman and a successful business owner. He loved hunting and fishing and traveling with his family and friends. He was very organized and was a “go to” man for information about anything. Michael enjoyed reading and gardening, roller coasters, cooking, and going on cruises. He was loved by his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He teased everyone and was the best father ever.
Michael is survived by his companion, Barbara Cooper, his three sons, Jason Louie Tong of Castledale, Utah, Scott Carl (Lashelle) Tong of Richfield, Utah, David Michael Tong of Cedar City, Utah, his daughter Pamela (Mitch) Henderson of St. George, Utah, his parents Louie P. and Lois A. Tong of Cedar City, Utah, two sisters Julie Ann (Michael) Baca and Louise (Layne) Slack and grandchildren Bryce, Zach, Shaley, Jaren, Tavian, and Drayden.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Burt and Emma Keele, and Louis and Ruth Tong, as well as his uncle Carl Keele and two grandsons, Joey and Jared.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the LDS Greenslake Chapel (1177 West Greenslake Drive, Cedar City, Utah). Viewings will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Greenslake Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
