MOUNDVILLE Ruth Kate Strickland Barks, age 87, of Moundville, died March 8, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Jerry Koster officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Barks, a sister Catherine Farley; two brothers Clyde Strickland and Ray Strickland; and her parents.

She was born on March 25, 1923 to William Jonas and India Ola Thomas Strickland.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Pomeroy (Paul); her son, Leonard Barks (Carolyn); her sisters, Doris Jones (Curtis) and Lois Way; her brother, Hubert Strickland; her grandchildren, Janel Sauder, Jeffrey Barks, and Christopher Barks; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
