Sherry Lynn Jenkins Bohman was born to Thomas Jenkins and LaVon Millar Jenkins on November 12, 1942, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. With a cattle dealer for a Dad and a registered nurse for a mother, she was raised mostly on a farm, and with her two younger brothers, she rode horses and helped herd cattle. Because of her agricultural background and her involvement in ranching, she was chosen Intermountain Appaloosa Club Queen in 1964.
After graduating from Idaho Falls High School, her parents sent her to Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where she met her future husband Art in an art class. She completed her junior year in Elementary Education with an arts and library minor.
After marriage in the Idaho Falls Temple, Sherry and Art moved to Cedar City, where Art had a one-year contract at Cedar City High School. They stretched that contract to 44 years. She completed her studies at CSU (now SUU) and was a teacher’s aide at North Elementary for only one a year because at that time, a husband and wife could not both teach in the Iron County School District. She worked for a short time at the Top Spot Drive Inn before retiring to raise her four children.
She used her minor in library science to get a job at the Cedar City Public Library on Center Street, where she served as interim director. She helped in the planning and moving to the new Library in the Park. She then worked as assistant library director with Steve Decker until she retired. During several of these years, she also served as Primary President in her LDS Ward.
Sherry was a skilled seamstress and loved to knit, crochet, and edged blankets for children, grandchildren, and friends. She also did the Ward Bulletin. Even while confined to her bed, she served a Family History mission. She met many friends doing this, including Sister Billie Wyckoff in Alabama, with whom she communicated daily.
The family thanks so many who have helped during Sherry’s illness: Sister LaNetta Sanders and her home teachers Brother and Sister Kent Myers, Doctor Jacob Corry, ward members, including Bishopric, Relief Society and other friends and neighbors. Iron County Home Health has really helped, visiting several times each week. Sherlene Chaffey has virtually come on demand. Marie Prince has also helped, and a friend Ann Childs has helped with changing dressings. The Cedar City Fire Department has helped on several occasions, and many others, including family.
Sherry is survived by R. Arthur Bohman, her husband of 51 years, and children Kendra (Chris) Nicolodemos, Eric and Karl (Theresa) Bohman, two brothers Ken and Dick (Mary) Jenkins, and several uncles and aunts, fourteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Roland Jenkins Bohman.
Funeral services will be held at noon on November 14, 2015 at the Cedar City Fourth Ward Chapel (500 West 400 North). A viewing will be held Friday November 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Southern Utah Mortuary and Saturday at the Fourth Ward Chapel from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
