Boyd Armond Bergeson of Nixa, Missouri passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009. Formerly of Orlando, Florida, Boyd had been a resident of Nixa since 1993. He was a professional jazz musician performing at Disney World and the Church Street Station in Orlando and he was a Navy veteran. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd, Sr. and Evelyn Lilliman Bergeson and one sister Katherine DeVrieze. Survivors include: his wife, Marianne; one son Mitchell Bergeson and his wife Dorothy, Bettendorf, Iowa, three daughters, Michelle Anne Wilford, Ozark, Mo., Molly Kathleen Piveral and husband Randy, Ocoee, Fla. and Melanie Marie Bergeson, Orlando, Fla.
NOTE: I do not where he was born on spent most of his life but this site will not let me save the tribute without putting in a STATE.
The photos below are from Boyd's days as banjo player extraordinaire at Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Emporium at Church Street Station. Our family first visited Rosie O'Grady's in 1974 - the year it opened - and we kept coming back. It was regulars like Boyd Bergeson, Don Lord, Warren Sauer and Ruth Crews who kept us coming back. The T-shirt Boyd is wearing in the B & W photo from the Dixie Direct album is one of my favorites. Boyd is on the far right in this image of my personal T-shirt.
This quote about Boyd is from Church Street Station press release circa 1985:
A versatile and exciting musician, banjo artist Boyd Bergeson learned his trade in Rock Island and Chicago, Illinois. After serving time in the Navy, he performed as a bassman with the Dixie Lads. He worked at Walt Disney World for five years in the Jazz Trio. Bergeson is not only a member of the Good Time Jazz Band, but also plays the guitar and drums and is a supplier of interesting arrangements and materials.

Our family loved watching Boyd play and listening to his music at Rosie O'Gradys Goodtime Jazz Band at Church Street Station.

Mitch, I'm glad you found the
Mitch, I'm so glad you found this. My husband and I visited Rosie O'Grady's from 1974 when they opened until they broke up the band near the end. You dad was AMAZING! If you're in Orlando, I have a display on the 3rd floor of the downtown Orlando Public Library until the end of October. Check with the Community Relations Department and they can put you in touch with me. I have a copy of the album with your Dad and would be happy to give it to you if you don't have a copy.
