Son of Thomas Edward and Alice
While fishing in the river last Saturday morning near Buffalo Bluff, Paul Willis Strange, age 37, met a tragic death by drowning. It appears that while standing up in the boat he slipped and fell, striking his head and falling into the water and sinking. News of the drowning spread rapidly and soon a large crowd had assembled and a search was started to locate the body. However it was about 4:30 p.m., before the body was recovered.
Justice of the Peace J. D. Hodge visited the scene, but deemed an inquest not necessary.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Sunnihites Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Alva Horton, officiating. Burial was made in the Peniel Cemetery, under direction of W. Carl Davis and Son.
The deceased was born and reared in the Peniel section, and for many years had been in the employ of the Wilson Cypress Company as a lumber inspector. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Esther Haisten Strange; one son, Paul Willis Strange, Jr., and two daughters, Martha Louise Strange, and Mrs. Allies Jenkins. Other survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Strange; three brothers, Russell W. Strange, Edward C. Strange and Leonard T. Strange; two sisters, Mrs. Allie Mae Robshaw, of this city, and Mrs. Clarence Godwin of Tampa. Palatka Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 24 Apr 1942.

Thank you for sharing the
Thank you for sharing the obituary for Paul Willis Strange. Would it be possible for you to elaborate on the note at the top: "Son of Thomas and Alice"? I have noticed that the obituary itself reads, "Other survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Strange." I am wondering who is the "Son of Thomas and Alice"? Thank you. french.warren@ocls.info

Thanks for the comment. Sorry
Thanks for the comment. Sorry about the confusion. His father's name is Thomas Edward Strange. Most people called him Ed. As many times as I have looked at this, I never noticed that. I guess because I know both names, I never realized it. I will add Edward to the top. Thanks again.
